"Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It is not something physical."

- Sophia Loren

There is something very attractive in someone who is looks good and appears confident. However these can just be superficial. Good food and water with some exercise goes a long way in helping the body look young longer. But even these aren't enough.

You've probably seen a young person who looks 20 years older than her age. Or maybe you know of a 30-something male who is starting to lose his edge in business. While good food, exercise, and water are critical for staying alive, they do not address the toxic build-up that looms inside, nor do they address brain health so that you can have a good memory, free of brain-fog, "senior moments," and the fear of getting a neurological diagnosis. To truly combat aging, you need to incorporate strategies to reduce toxic build up and optimize brain function.

"Everything you have ever experienced, felt, or conducted

in life is due to brain function. The ability to enjoy, perceive, sense, and experience life is dictated by the firing rate

and health of your brain. It is impossible for a person

to become healthy mentally or physiologically

without a healthy brain."

- Dr. Datis Kharrazian

In a recent seminar with Dr. Kharrazian, he stated, "At this time, there is no specialty in the entire traditional healthcare system, including neurology, that has a full understanding for supporting and optimizing the health of the brain. There is limited understanding of how poor brain function leads to hypertension, poor digestion, sexual dysfunction, hormone imbalance, abnormal pain perception, bladder incontinence, etc." He went on to say that the tendency is to treat these symptoms without ever considering the relationships these might have with brain function.

One approach to anti-aging is to safely eliminate toxins and the conditions that create them. A build up of toxins will cause anyone to appear older than they are. Wrinkled, puffy skin and a slow walk are not the only things that make someone look older. You know the signs, they are obvious on many people you might see in the mall. These signs of aging may diminish as toxins are removed.

In addition to lower libido, thinning hair, stiff joints, and wrinkles there are the more other signs that point to brain dysfunction - a more sobering part of the aging process. These symptoms include depression, anxiety, hot flashes, migraines, insomnia, chronic pain, and forgetfulness. And we are seeing these in even young people.

Who is talking to you about your brain health? Not how can you manage a serious neurological disease like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, or ALS but who is advising you on how you can support and nourish your brain now before something serious develops? Regardless of your profession, skills, or hobbies, everyone will enjoy life more with healthy brain function.

Fortunately, the latest research shows ways to slow down brain degeneration. In supporting the neurotransmitters and providing the brain with appropriate health-supporting foods, supplements, and stimulation, people can begin to reverse the effects of aging and feel younger and vibrant again.

Part of our Wellness Consultation includes considering symptoms that correlate to poor brain function. There is much peer-reviewed literature that suggests the wide-spread and unfortunate neurodegeneration that much of the population slowly settles into. It also exposes the multitude of relationships that exist between the brain and organs/systems within the body as well as the impact stress has on these relationships.

More and more people are realizing the need to detoxify the body from pesticides and other chemicals, but there are additional toxins that can put a burden on the body. Some of these toxins can come from external sources such as heavy metals or they can be created internally because of imbalances within the brain and/or body. Even negative emotions are a form of toxicity that can affect how you feel. The bottom line is that toxins need to be removed for the body to feel and look really good.

What can you do to reverse aging and feel younger? Many practitioners recommend doing a general cleanse once a year. That may be good advice for some people, although we recommend that pregnant and nursing women avoid detox programs. Additionally, there are many people who are struggling with complicated health issues and it might not be safe for them to start a cleanse until they are stronger. At our office, no two people are the same. We make recommendations based on the person and the situation.
